Sea Island Coffee is a premium B2C brand, sourcing the rarest and highest quality coffees, ethically sourced from around the world for coffee connoisseurs.

Project Overview

The incumbent website lacked a premium feel and wasn’t doing the brand justice from a look and feel perspective. It also wasn’t sufficiently educating customers about the products, the brand, and its ethos. The client wanted to overhaul the look, and future proof the site with fully customised functionality that would allow them to take full control and utilise Shopify’s ease of use.

The project was underpinned by 3 goals: increasing customer lifetime value, conversion rate and average order value.

What We Did

We developed a best-in-class, UX-focused Shopify site from the ground up, with bespoke design and functionality. This created an engaging user journey to captivate visitors as they navigate the store, also giving the brand complete autonomy over each individual page.

Our design team collaborated with the brand to deliver a crafted and clear user journey to enable visitors to learn about the products and move towards purchase, confident in their decision. The moment a visitor landed on the site, it needed to be clear that they were shopping for high-quality coffees.

Creating Clarity For Customers

An expansive product range, with varying regions, estates, and flavour profiles meant the old navigation had a lack of clarity, making it difficult for customers to find their preferred products. We overhauled this to make the journey clear, more engaging, and add opportunity to cross-sell.

We redesigned the product page to better showcase the quality and features, with 'focus regions' to uplift content, and 'upsell regions' to increase AOV.

The subscription portal was redesigned with an improved interface and functionality, thanks to an integration with Recharge. We also took care to ensure that the new iteration remained familiar enough to existing customers so they would be able to find their information and orders easily.

Answering Questions

The brand was receiving a lot of questions from customers - often the same questions around delivery, subscription and product - which was partly due to the quality and structure of the available information on the old site. We redesigned their FAQ page, as well as their About Page which the brand was able to populate with their commonly received queries. This improved the customer experience, reduced the burden on staff to manage inbound enquiries, while creating a more considered approach to showcasing their brand ethos.

A Better Customer Experience

One of the key deliverables was to deploy our UX experience to optimise existing pages as well as creating layouts for landing pages which could be deployed post-launch. This will enable those pages to be better aligned with traffic being directed to the site from external campaigns. We worked with the brand to identify their priority needs, then designed and created multi-use blocks to offer wide-ranging functionality for endless opportunities to align with their ongoing strategies. A new suite of pages with more functionality enhances the experience for the customer, and offers more flexibility for the brand.

The team at Radiant worked with Sea Island to create more than a website that sells coffee. A winning combination of design UX, UI, development expertise and a deep understanding of ecommerce combined to launch a store that works superbly for the brand and its customers. 

The end result is a beautiful and well-considered custom Shopify store, educating and nurturing visitors through the buying process, converting more of them into customers and increasing lifetime value through higher subscription signups.
