From Side Hustle to Full-Time Map Geek

Antique Maps & Prints began as a side project for founder Richard and has grown into a full-time business with a treasure trove of authentic historical maps and prints from around the world. When the time came to modernise the site, Richard turned to Radiant for a complete replatforming and redesign, migrating the store to Shopify while preserving the character and legacy of the brand. There was a deadline for moving away from the old platform so the project needed to be completed quickly, efficiently and carefully.

The Challenge: A Modern Destination for A Rich Archive

The incumbent platform couldn’t keep up with the scale and complexity of the growing inventory, which constitutes over 80,000 maps and prints categorised by country, subject, cartographer, era, and more. On top of that, the store had to handle not just ecommerce basics, but also:

Platform Migration to Shopify

We migrated all products, categories, and customer data to Shopify, with a keen eye on maintaining URL structure, preserving SEO rankings, and ensuring no historical value was lost in the move. Our SEO team was integral to the project, mapping (no pun intended) the redirects from the old site to the new, plus helping to steer design when it came to ensuring optimum crawlability by search engines.

Custom Functionality & App Integration

From enabling high-detail Deep Zoom image views to consulting on custom tag pages, we ensured every detail catered to customers and search engines. Deep Zoom enables shoppers to examine some of the collectible products far more closely than on a typical ecommerce site, replicating the experience of appreciating the fine detail of a map or print in person.
